The Ventura academy will be closed Friday March 27th and 28th and the SB location will be open Friday and closed for the 12 noon class on Saturday.  Sorry for the late notice almost all of our instructors will be competing this weekend.  Hope to see you guys in LA for the event.

Guys, We are heading down to the copa this friday for the weekend! Th event will be held at La Quinta Highschool in Westminster, CA. Should be a fun event to compete or just watch if your interested in competing in the future. The event will begin Saturday and Sunday both at 10am. The gym will be open Wed the 26th for the 12pm class and a 6-8 open mat!! We will be closed Thur and Fri the 27-28. The gym will have kickboxing Sat the 29th at the normal time and the noon jiu jitsu class will be an open mat.

Tyrone Glover Seminar

Tyrone Glover Seminar at Paragon Saturday November 22!! This will be an awesome 3 hour seminar from 2-5!! Tyrone will cover BJJ, Submission Wrestling, and MMA techniques. Early Registration will be 55.00 and same day registration will be 70.00. Tyrone was Franjinha’s first black belt and this seminar is a must see. NEW VENTURA LOCATION COMING SOON!!!!!!!!!!The address to the new awesome Ventura location is 83 S. Palm St. Ventura CA, 93001The Academy will be 4,400 sq/ft and will have full locker rooms for men and women, a huge BJJ mat, and fitness equipment. Santa Cruz US Open Tournament

Was a great weekend at the Santa Cruz US open tournament. All those competing looked awesome and fought very hard. The clear difference between are guys and the other schools was our attacking style. We had some first time competitors who really looked impressive and will have a bright competition future. David Kinney, Lucas, Ben, and Jose Lopez all did awesome for their first time competing. Lucas won his first 4 matches and lost to the second place finisher. Greg bangs looked great winning also his first four matches either by submission or 12+ points. He lost to the first place finisher by points great job. The blue belts looked strong on sunday led by Matt Magana winning his division beating 5 opponents with ease. Sean Conley took 2nd place in the brown belt division at the end of the day. Great job guys!!!

Paragon BBQ

Paragon BBQ and Promotion Party this Saturday 12pm sharp at the ACADEMY !!! We will do our traditional belt ceremony which involves all those getting promoted to be whipped by all other members of the academy : ) After the ceremony we will head to shoreline park for our BBQ. Please, students not being promoted please bring drinks/beer/chips with you for the team. Steak, chicken, pasta, grilled vegetables, and salad will be provided by Paragon. Will be a lot of fun please feel free to invite friends and family. The BBQ will most likely begin around 2pm!! Head Instructor Ricardo “Franjinha” Miller took first place in his weight division and second place in the open division. Head instructor Cordy Poulis took first place in the Brown Belt Division age 35-40 Dave Kohl won the blue belt super heavy weight division adult division 18-29. Dave has taken 2nd place the past two years in both the gi and no gi world championships so this is his first title.Josh Noblin took first place in the Brown Belt open division for ages 35-40 and Anthony Califano won first place in both his weight class and the open division Brown Belt age 40 and up!!!! Blue Belt Scott Wasmuth won 2nd place in his weight class and third place in the open division age 30-35!! Purple belt champion Katie Weilbacher won second place in the brown/black womens open class and 2nd place in her weight class she fought great. The team finished 1st place overall in the adult division and first place in the Masters and Seniors division awesome job everyone! Photos

Southbay Jiu-Jitsu Tournament

The southbay jiu jitsu tournament will be held this weekend at Torrance High School Sat and Sun. If you are not competing in the event please come support the guys so we can have a big fan base. Team Trip

We are planning a Paragon team trip August 23rd and want to invite all you guys plus any guests you wish to bring. We are going to charter the channel cat which is a large yacht. Katie was promoted to Brown belt by Franjinha on Friday June 20th and received her belt whipping. Brown belt as you guys know is a huge accomplishment in BJJ and few people ever achieve it. Well done Katie keep up the hard work.

Jiu Jitsu world championships

The Jiu Jitsu world championships ended this past weekend with Paragon/Alliance Team taking first place overall!! Amazing job to Katie Weilbacker on her two gold medals both in her weight division and the open weight class. Matt Magana and David Kohl both finished second place after smashing through the early rounds. Vince from Ventura finished with the gold medal in the white belt master division big congrats to him as well. Bill the Grill Cooper finished 4 tough opponents and lost a close final match taking second place in the BLACK belt division awesome!! Great job to everyone who competed in takes a lot of guts to be out there.

Best of the West Results

Hey guys was an awesome weekend for the Paragon competition team as the guys fought great!! In the advanced division Sean Apperson finished both of his matches via submission and won first place in the 180-190 adult division. We had several first time competitors that looked awesome: Joe Castillo took second in his weight division and first place in the open novice division submitting 4 guys great job Joe!! Rick Mancilla fought hard in his division and also closed out the division with Joe sharing first place in the novice open division. Adam and Jay Shellhammer both fought hard looking to finish and stayed aggressive in their fights losing by points. Naveed G finished 3rd place after losing a very close semi-final match in sudden death overtime. Chuck Monroe looked awesome entering the beginner division after only 5 months of training and was winning 7-0 before getting caught in a triangle choke. Dave Kohl and Matt Magana both entered the advanced division which is a big step for blue belts and they both looked great wining a couple matches each killer job!!!

Hey guys we are bringing a team down to Long Beach next weekend for the Best of the West let me know if your interested in competing. We will get a few rooms down there and stay Sat night so we can weigh in. The event will take place on sunday the 18th, should be a lot of fun so let us know.

Grapplers Quest Results

Paragon Team killed it this weekend at the grapplers Quest in Las Vegas! Bill and Jeff both closed out the Advanced Open Division smashing through all their opponents with ease. Matt Magana submitted all his opponents to win his division and then finished 2nd in the open division losing only to an advantage point. Adam Abrams won his first 2 matches and lost a close third match by points great job Adam! Katie Weilbacher takes the crown winning both her division and the open belt title finishing her first two opponents and winning her final match by points.. Awesome job guys Paragon comes away with 5 gold medals and 1 silver medal.

The team did great this weekend big thanks to all the guys for keeping Paragon BJJ one of the top schools in the nation. As expected we teamed up with the Alliance team which is Franjinha’s old school and Alliance teamed with Paragon won first place in every division as a team. Winning the pan ams as a team is a huge accomplishment great job to all who competed and all who came down to support the guys. When competing its very helpful to have strong support from your teammates as competitors feed off crowd. MMA makes huge jumps

Two huge developments for the sport of mixed martial arts!!! First the new MAIN sponsor of the UFC is Anheuser-Busch meaning there will be a Large Center mat budlight logo at all UFC events starting in April. This also means they will start marketing the sport and the fighters finally lifting mma near or above boxing. This is awesome!!Second CBS has agreed to a deal with pro elite(the company that owns elite XC) bringing mma to Saturday nights on one of the 4 major TV networks.
