So you've started to wonder how to apply the skills that you've been honing for the last year or you wonder what it would be like to have a "live" individual in front of you countering your attacks. Other than sparring, this is the class where your abilities will be tested. Training in the advanced class allows you to make contact with your partner (in a VERY controlled environment) while they block, dodge or parry your strikes. A range of sparring drills are used to help you refine your ring (or self-defense) skills. Spacing, footwork and stances are heavily stressed in this program as well as strategies you can use to make your kickboxing more effective or at least give you the confidence that you are on the right path to becoming the best kickboxer that YOU can be.
Personal Equipment Needed:
—Personal Sparring gloves
—Shin Guards
—Mouthpiece
—Groin Cup (men)
—Chest Protector (women)
—Ankle Wraps
Sample Advanced Kickboxing Combo Drills:
—Leg Check, Rt Cross, Lt Hook
—Catching an opponents thrusting Kick, stepping outside, follow up with your own Round-House Kick.
—Feint a Round-House Kick, execute a back-kick, and follow up with a spinning back-fist.
There are obviously too many combinations to mention, but hopefully the examples above give you an idea of what to expect in class. Aside from sparring gloves and shin guards, no other equipment is used. There will be more contact in this class; therefore, it will be by invitation only. That being said, if you feel that you are ready for this type of training, let one of the instructors know so that we may assess your experience and abilities and determine whether this is the appropriate class for you. Again, the kickboxing program is designed to give you and all of its members a challenging and effective workout while remaining safe, fun and exciting. I look forward to working with you.
